Accessibility

Accessibility is a primary focus of my research, so of course my site should also be accessible. This page explains how the site is structured, how to adjust it, and where it still falls short. Each topic below is its own heading, so you can jump between them with your screen reader's heading navigation.

Navigating with a screen reader or keyboard

  • Skip link: the first Tab stop on every page is "Skip to main content," which jumps past the header and navigation.
  • Landmarks: every page has a banner (site header), navigation, main, and content info (footer). Jump between them with D in NVDA, ; in JAWS, or the Landmarks list in the VoiceOver rotor (VO + U).
  • Headings: each page has one level-1 heading, with sections and individual papers or projects nested below it. Press H (or 1–3 for a specific level) in NVDA or JAWS, or use the Headings list in the VoiceOver rotor.
  • Project and paper cards: each card's title is a link to the paper or project page. Any additional links on a card (paper, dataset, demo) follow as separate links, and each card link should announce that it opens in a new tab.
  • Language buttons: the EN and ES buttons in the About section are toggle buttons that should announce which language is currently selected.

Display and motion preferences

  • Light and dark themes: the site follows your system setting by default. The sun/moon button in the header switches themes, and your choice is remembered.
  • Reduced motion: the site respects your system's reduced-motion setting. The motion button in the header also turns off the animated 3D background, the custom cursor, transitions, and looping project preview videos. The 3D background is also skipped automatically on slow connections.

Content

  • Images and videos have text alternatives. Project preview videos are silent and don't carry information that isn't in the text.
  • Languages: the About section is available in English and Spanish. Switching languages updates the section's language attribute, so screen readers should switch to that language's voice and pronunciation.
  • Link previews: terms with extra context in the About section show a tooltip on hover or keyboard focus.
